How we are organised

Five teams, one Sabha

Work is carried by standing wings rather than by the committee alone, so programmes keep running as office bearers change.

  • Parent Team

The state core committee — appointed office bearers who set direction, hold the monthly meetings and carry the Sabha's formal responsibilities across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

  • Yuva Parishad

The youth wing. Runs the career guidance programmes in Chennai, Vaniyambadi and on college campuses, and maintains the community jobs group.

  • Mahila Mandali

The women's wing. Leads the cultural awareness programmes and the festival observances, including the Navratri distribution to Bhavsar families.

  • Graduates & HR Parishad

Graduates and HR professionals from the community, supporting placements, career development and mentoring for those entering the workforce.

  • Vadhu Var Team

Organises the vadhu–var parichay melava and produces the printed souvenir directory of registered profiles given to attending families.

Our community

Who is Bhavsar Kshatriya?

The Bhavsar — also called Bhavsara Kshatriya — trace their name, by community tradition, to two warrior princes: Bhavsingh and Sarsingh. Tradition holds that when Parshuram vowed vengeance against the warrior clans, the two princes sought the protection of Goddess Hinglaj at her shrine in Baluchistan, and were granted it. Hinglaj Mata (Hingulamba) remains the kuldevi — the clan goddess — of the community to this day.

Ours has historically been a textile people. Bhavsars worked as dyers, calico printers, tailors and designers — a craft also reflected in the community's alternate name in Gujarat, where they were known as Vaniya, with a long history in textiles, agriculture and retail trade. That heritage of colour and print is the reason this website draws its palette from natural dyes rather than generic ornament.

As the Mughal empire expanded and imposed harder terms on the dyeing and textile trades, many Bhavsar families migrated south. In Maharashtra, they were classified as Kshatriyas under the ruling Peshwas — a classification that travelled with the families who continued moving further south into the Deccan and the Tamil country.

Southern Bhavsar populations — in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh — carry surnames in the Maharashtrian tradition and speak a distinct home dialect, Bhavsar Marathi, still passed down in many families. These communities settled largely around British-era cantonment towns, where work was available at the time — consistent with the Maha Sabha's own base in Vaniyambadi, Tirupathur District.

Today the community is spread across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Tamil Nadu, and through a wider global diaspora. Occupations now span IT, medicine, business and public service alongside the traditional trades — but the thread connecting families across these regions, the Maha Sabha included, remains the same shared name, kuldevi and history.
